Valentine’s Day – Hubby’s office surprise

I was always the sad envious teenager back in homeroom watching all the other girls accepting the delivery of Valentine’s roses from their secret admirers.

This year, I decided to send my hubby a surprise Valentine’s Day gift from Edible Arrangements, a colorful fruit bouquet attached to a floating heart-shaped mylar balloon.  The perfect touch to gain attention, but without using any flowers or breaking the bank.  Now, I had pictured it just like in the movies where the delivery guy walks the long hallway passing the other cubicles as the other peeps stared with “awes.” Then as the delivery guy reaches his destination, he announces my hubby’s name while the surrounding nosy colleagues read the card.  But, it didn’t happen at all that way.

The delivery guy left the gift in the mailroom and my blushing hubby had to pick it up downstairs and walk a couple of cubicle aisles with folks shouting, ”Yo, Happy Valentine’s Day!” The passerbyers did end up reading the card which my hubby proudly displayed on the bulletin board next to his monitor along our family photos.

Exhausted from all the winter holiday celebrations, I didn’t plan on having anything spectacular.  But in the last minute, I still found myself rummaging the refrigerator like the Chopped chef trying to create an artistic yet tasty cuisine in one hour.

The good thing about having plain red table setting is that you can get by using it during several holidays throughout the year.  Just change the tablecloth, the centerpiece and “Voila!” You’ll have the perfect pictures for Christmas, Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day to even July 4th.

“My lord, dinner is served!  Tonight’s menu includes Sautéed Thyme Ribs, Stir Fry Onions, Almond Rice and Heart-Shaped Portobello Mushrooms,” I announced in British accent while the Frank Sinatra station streamed from Pandora.

The centerpiece was simple and easy.  A bunch of Ferrero Rocher Chocolates arranged together to create a heart.

For dessert…warm chocolate fondue.  Wow!  A whole new meaning in devouring fruits.

And there you have it…Valentine’s candlelight dinner within the hour.

Hubby was too busy to get me anything.  He pretty much whipped out his plastic and said, “TRY not to surprise me with the statement.”…..right…. =)

Stay tune for Easter and Bubble’s birthday!
